The maritime section provides you with a view of relics and memorabilia left over by the early settlers and the Sanko Harvest ship’s remains. The railway section presents you with a view of the old W919 steam locomotive train run between Kalgoorlie and Esperance. The vintage machinery section provides you with a view of old machinery and items from the 1800s in Esperance. You can also visit the section that displays the pieces of Skylab, the United States’ first space station.

The effort of dedicated volunteers runs the museum. Currently, the museum has about fifty volunteers. Please note that the volunteers will not be able to provide full research services. They can only give you a brief overview of the relics on display in the museum’s collection.

Due to the development of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Shire of Esperance has taken steps to ensure the health, safety, and well-being of the volunteer staff, the community, and all visitors to the museum. The museum is working in line with the guidelines laid down by the Australian and Western Australian Governments and the Department of Health.

The 2-square metre rules, physical distancing, and good hygiene practices are being observed. Currently, people travelling in from Victoria are permitted to enter Western Australia. However, they must enter a 14-day self-quarantine upon their arrival and present themselves for a COVID-19 test on the 11th day.
